Their "taille" and their weight are different: it depends of the type, from 50 centimètres and 25 kilogrammes ( chèvre aegagre) and 1 mètre et 100 kilogrammes ( bouquetin des Alpes). About 12000 jears ago goats were "domesticated" in a place at " Égée à l’Indus". Its domestication had been progressiv with origins from the type bouquetin and more probably from a wild type (Capra aegagrus). All over poor regions goats are very important. Only in period of "gestion" we assure a higher level of nouriture. Various are the possibilities to "exploit": milk and meat and skin and hair ( mohair, angora) . There are many tales and stories about goats and some in some tradition goats are symbolic elements At the age of 7 month a goat can be "feconded". The "rut" is from august to november. The male is named "bouc". After a "gestion" of 5 month the goat gives birth to one or two babies. Naturally she can give them her milk about 6 month. In 1990 there were about less than a million goats in France. There are less and less because of the "rentability of farming". Most goats are registered in: Poitou-Charentes , region Rhône-Alpes and in the center of France. The principale races are "poitevine" and "corse"," rove"and "angora" .The goats "mini" are loved by kids. Races like "provençale", "le mont-d’or "catalane "are in danger to "disapaer". |
